TIKKUN OLAM NURSERY & PRIMARY SCHOOL IN UGANDA

The intellectual development of our children is central to a better future. We encourage them to learn and master English and guide them in their use of this language to better their lives, which will establish further economic and social benefits.

We also strive to nurture the social and emotional development of our children, helping them to form strong and stable relationships, encourage their sense of responsibility, independence, self-confidence, self-control and consideration for others. Building on moral values is stressed through lessons which focus on respect for teachers, support staff, and elders.

Allowing for creative development is also important to us. We provide all our children the  opportunity to experiment with a variety of materials, arts and music, encouraging individual expression and awakening a growing awareness and appreciation of the beauty surrounding them.

The physical development of the child is addressed by helping the child to use his/her body effectively. The school provides space to play, sports and team-building activities, as well as training in personal hygiene.

Because Tikkun Olam is operated by the Namutumba Abayudaya community, special emphasis is placed on Jewish education and learning of the Hebrew language. We are one of only three schools in the entire country which offers this instruction.

The process of an effective transition from home to school can be difficult.  We attempt to soothe and minimize any of the child's anxieties stemming from the home issues by stressing faculty sensitivity, taking into consideration the varied domestic and family backgrounds of Tikkun Olam's most precious assets -- our children.
